Read full description of the books The Missing Ink:The Missing Ink is the first book in Tattoo Shop Mystery series. I was so in the mood for this type of book. I liked the setting, the main character and the story so much that I'll definitely read the rest of the books in the series.
The mystery of the missing girl was well plotted. You suspect everyone Brett meets in her sleuthing. Even after you find out who is the guiltiest party, you realize the rest of them aren't completely clean. You may guess the who and, then again, you may not. It doesn't matter in the end.
Next, Brett Kavanaugh's brand of 'investigating' is so relatable it's funny. I would do most of the things she did. Often the clues just appeared. Other times certain characters simply told her stuff. She doesn't do much really, but the way the situation develops from the moment the missing girl asks for the devotion tattoo to and some other, more serious events is well written.
The supporting cast is good too. Some of them were annoying as hell (Bitsy), but it was nothing to mess up the story. I loved Brett's relationship with her brother and those snippets of her past. There's probably more in the rest of the books. This one just gave enough to make Brett more interesting and the particular thing given to us perfectly fits the case of The Missing Ink.
I liked Brett a lot because she wasn't trying to be one of those tough characters. She doesn't need to swear, hit people or break the law to be special (her attitude towards speeding is hilarious).
Although cozy mysteries are mostly set in small towns or villages, I guess Las vegas could work too because certain things do happen off page. The usual setting aside, this book has all the features of a cozy mystery. It's a good blend of mystery and humour with some heavier themes thrown in.
I enjoyed this story.
