5 Strategies for Job Seekers Age 50+ to Push Past Ageism & Find a Job
in the Loyalty-Free Workplace

Finding a new job is almost as challenging as the job itself. Once job seekers hit age 50 and above, that difficulty level shoots through the roof—not because of your age, however, but because of how your age is typically perceived by most hiring managers.

The good news is that overcoming this perception is no different than any other hill or obstacle you may face in your career path. All you need are the right tools that can help you to get up and over the hill, or at least around it.

Over the Hill But Not the Cliff is a straightforward and practical guide that job seekers 50+ can use to not only survive in the modern workplace, but thrive. Written by the author of the #1 Amazon best-selling book, The Perpetual Paycheck: 5 Secrets to Getting a Job, Keeping a Job, and Earning Income for Life in the Loyalty-Free Workplace, it reveals a host of strategies that can help you redirect the hiring manager’s focus to where it should be: on the wealth of experience and benefits that you, as an older candidate, bring to the table.

Just as a molehill is not a mountain, a hill is not a cliff. Over the Hill But Not the Cliff will help job seekers push past the ageism hill, because the only purpose it serves is to block one’s view of the unprecedented opportunities that lie ahead.

Lori B. Rassas is the author of the #1 Amazon best-selling Ebook, The Perpetual Paycheck: 5 Secrets to Getting a Job, Keeping a Job, and Earning Income for Life in the Loyalty-Free Workplace, and a textbook, Employment Law: A Guide to Hiring, Firing, and Managing for Employers and Employees. She currently has her own consulting practice coaching job seekers on how to navigate the workplace, offering in-person and web-based training workshops, and providing guidance on all human resources matters.

Rassas is an SPHR-certified employment attorney with nearly two decades of experience. She received an LL.M in Labor and Employment Law from New York University Law School; a JD from the George Washington University Law School; and a BA from Tufts University. Her first book, a textbook titled Employment Law: A Guide to Hiring, Managing, and Firing for Employers and Employees, lays out, in clear and concise terms, much of what she has learned about the legal rights and obligations of both employers and employees.

Her second book, The Perpetual Paycheck: 5 Secrets to Getting a Job, Keeping a Job, and Earning Income for Life in the Loyalty-Free Workplace was published in April 2015 and features on CNBC's Power Lunch.

Her third book, Over the Hill But Not the Cliff: 5 Strategies for 50+ Job Seekers to Push Past Ageism and Find a Job in the Loyalty-Free Workplace is is a straightforward and practical guide that job seekers 50+ can use to not only survive in the modern workplace, but thrive. The book reveals a host of strategies that can help you redirect the hiring manager’s focus to where it should be: on the wealth of experience and benefits that you, as an older candidate, bring to the table.

Lori began her work on employment issues while attending NYU Law School, when she worked in NBC’s Talent Negotiations and Labor Relations Department. This experience provided her with insight into how a large employer such as NBC manages its employees.

From there she went on to represent on-air television and radio talent employees while working as an attorney for the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA), now merged with the Screen Actors Guild (SAG); at that time, the AFTRA was a national labor union representing more than seventy thousand actors, broadcasters, and other performers around the country. She eventually became the assistant counsel for that organization. While at AFTRA, Lori counseled artists on all aspects of their employment, ranging from how to network and establish the relationships necessary to transition to new employment opportunities, to the negotiation of employment contracts, the resolution of day-to-day workplace disputes, and trends in hiring and firing practices. She spent a significant amount of time advising individuals who were just entering the workforce as well as those who were approaching middle age and looking to transition out of the entertainment business and into new fields.

Lori gained management-side experience as the director of labor relations for Columbia University, where she provided counsel to human resources staff, department heads, university offices, and unionized staff members.

Lori also has extensive experience teaching and training individuals in all phases of their careers through her live and on-line training workshops, as well as through her work as a member of the adjunct faculty at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health, Cornell University’s Scheinman Institute on Conflict Resolution, Fordham University’s School of Law, and Berkeley College.
